The Kitimat Community Development Centre is seeking a dedicated and motivated Child Care Manager to join our Stepping Stones team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about early childhood education, committed to supporting children, families, and educators, and eager to take on a leadership role in a collaborative environment.

 

This is a full-time, temporary position to provide coverage during maternity leave.


Wage: $25.95 - $30.71 (before ECE Wage Enhancement)

Qualifications

  • A Basic or Diploma level ECE education or degree in a related field
  • A valid ECE Certificate in British Columbia (ECE registry)
  • Experience working at a childcare centre
  • Experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Familiarity with the legal requirements of childcare programs
  • Valid first aid certificate

  • Good interpersonal communication skills –both orally and written
  • Demonstrated organization, time and general management skills
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
  • Must maintain the highest professional and ethical standards

  Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall childcare programming and curriculum planning ensuring it meets the needs of children and families.
  • Plans, implements and evaluates short- and long-term objectives for the program.
  • Establishes and maintains an up-to-date waiting list system and enrolls children in accordance with the enrollment policies.
  • Ensure that staff fulfill their general responsibilities by providing positive role modeling, leadership and support to team members.
  • Responsible for orientation, direction and supervision of staff, SCD/ICC Workers, volunteers, and practicum students who are in the childcare. This includes safety, health, child specific information and other licensing requirements.
  • Ensure that all aspects of program planning for professional development days, sick leave coverage and holiday coverage have been prepared in advance.
  • Ensures the Executive Director or designate is informed in a timely manner about all concerns related to children, staff or any relevant aspect of the childcare.
  • Considers each child’s development and, with parent/guardian approval, refer to services.
  • Work in collaboration with the SCD/ICC program staff including the Consultant and SCD/ICC Workers that are placed in the childcare.
  • Develops an individual care plan for all children with extra support needs.
  • Establishes and maintains children's files including registration forms, medical records, permission forms to administer medication and consent forms in accordance with licensing requirements and centre policy. And ensures that policies and procedures related to termination of services (as a last resort measure) are implemented.
  • Establishes and maintains a system to record all arrivals and pick up of children.
  • Establishes and ensures appropriate use of communication logbook and maintains appropriate communication with the enrolling parents/legal guardians and staff including newsletters, personal communication, and bulletin boards.
  • Reviews the program family handbook, updates policies and procedures as changes are made.
  • Fosters cooperative and supportive interactions between program, staff and families.
  • Ensure that the program is organized for the day including schedule; activities; free time options; staff placement; and clean up and end of day duties. Ensure that weekly activities are planned as needed. Review the following weeks’ plans with staff.
  • Ensure that program plans, reports and licensing requirements are completed and submitted by due dates.
  • Inventories, evaluates and plans for the material and equipment needs of the childcare program.
  • Works with Finance to ensure the childcare runs in accordance with budgets.
  • Prepares and distributes newsletter(s) and notices as required to ensure that enrolling parent/legal guardian(s) are aware of upcoming events.  Discusses with families and appropriate staff any concerns and make suggestions where appropriate.
  • Meet with families and children regarding children’s progress and/or developmental concerns and during transitions between programs.
  • Represent the Centre at relevant community meetings.
  • Be flexible to open and close the centre as necessary to stay in compliance with the BC Child Care Licensing Regulations.
  • Other duties as requested.
